Joy, Bouyssou Win Mat Town 2 Titles

Jaxon Joy and Gabriel Bouyssou both earned championships at the Mat Town Open 2 in Pennsylvania on Sunday.

Joy took his sixth title of the season at 149 pounds after another dominant showing.  He started with a pair of technical falls, 16-0 over Alex Turley of Hofstra and 19-4 against Nicholas Villani of Rutgers.  He then majored Alex Nini, who has started some matches for the Scarlet Knights this year, by a 12-0 score.  In the finals, he topped Logan Gioffre of Missouri, 10-5. Gioffre was nationally-ranked last season for the Tigers.

Bouyssou was in control throughout the day, beginning with a 20-7 major over Joe Fongaro of Rutgers before a 17-2 technical fall versus Noah Kochman of Duke. In the title bout, Bouyssou again won big, this time by 20-1 tech fall against Seamus Mack of Lehigh.

Louie Cerchio finished third at 165 pounds. He beat Jake Slotnick of Hofstra and Sean Seefeldt of Penn RTC in his first two matches to advance to the semis.  He then lost to multi-time NCAA qualifier Max Brignola of Lehigh, but rebounded with an 8-2 win over Caden Bellis of Penn RTC to take bronze.

Justin Shay nabbed fifth place at 141 pounds, with a 3-1 day. He fell to finalist Mack in his opening bout, but bounced back with victories over Aaron Lanster of Buffalo, Branden Rozanski, and Max Hermes of Rutgers.

Cash Henderson picked up a 9-0 major decision at heavyweight against Oscar Williams of Maryland, while Ryder Yoshitake defeated Wyatt Fox of Lock Haven at 149.

Cornell's Benny Rogers went 4-1 for fifth at 157. He beat opponents from Lehigh, Lock Haven, and Penn RTC, only losing to the eventual champion, Brandon Cannon of Ohio State.
