Joy Wins MSU Open, Bouyssou Takes 2nd




In his season debut, Jaxon Joy won the championship at the Michigan State Open at 149 pounds. Joy went 4-0 on the day, picking up technical falls in three of his four bouts, including 15-0 over Mason Shrader of Central Michigan in the title match. He outscored his opponents 55-8 during the tournament.


Also making the finals in the Open division was 141 pounder Gabriel Bouyssou.  Bouyssou placed for the second consecutive week, and he topped a pair of Big 10 opponents - Brock Bobzien of Wisconsin (15-3 major) and Joey Butler of Indiana. His loss was to returning Oklahoma State starter Tagen Jamison.


Louie Cerchio competed at 165 pounds in the Open tournament, earning four wins, including two technical falls, in a 4-2 day.


Cash Henderson nabbed second in the Freshman/Sophomore division at heavyweight.  He pinned his first two opponents in the opening period before a 4-2 victory in the semifinals. 


Ryder Yoshitake also placed in the Freshman/Sophomore event, going 5-1 at 149 pounds to take third. Three of his wins were by bonus points and his sole loss was a 1-0 decision against the eventual champ. 


In addition, Daniel Aranda and Kosta Koufalis competed in the Freshman/Sophomore tournament.  Aranda earned two wins at 141 pounds, both by major decision.
