Agoge Intro: Myles Griffin

Myles Griffin of Team Florida found himself down 8-0 after the first period of his third round match at Fargo this summer against Tommy Curran of Illinois at 145 pounds. However, he showed his resolve, coming back with a vengeance after the break to knot the score at 8 and win on criteria.

Griffin finished with a 5-2 record in Freestyle in North Dakota, at his last high school tournament.

The next stop for Griffin is New York - a place he knows well.

Although he graduated from Lake Highland Prep in Florida, Griffin enjoyed a stellar youth career in the Empire State then made an impact as an eighth grader for Jamesville-Dewitt High School near Syracuse. He won a Section III title at 99 pounds with four bonus point victories, punching his ticket to the state tournament.

He wasn’t intimidated by the big stage of the NYS championships, as he went 5-1 with three pins and a technical fall on the way to a third place finish. He completed his debut varsity season with a 34-4 record.

The following year as a freshman, Griffin moved up to 120 pounds, but still saw plenty of success in a 31-8 campaign, in which he was a Section runner up and once again qualified for the state tournament.

He then moved South. At Lake Highland Prep, Griffin competed in some of the top high school events in the country, including the Walsh Ironman and the Doc Buchanan.

In his return to New York in 2021-22 for Spartan Combat RTC, Griffin, who gave a verbal commitment to Cornell this spring, projects at 149 or 157 pounds.
