Both Mike Dellagatta and Simon Ruiz won five matches in Las Vegas at the US Open to place in U20 Freestyle competition. Dellagatta captured third place at 92 kg, while Ruiz nabbed fifth at 79 kg.
Along the way, Dellagatta outscored his first three opponents 29-4 and later beat NCAA qualifier Jack Wehmeyer to advance to the third place bout.
Ruiz topped NCAA qualifiers Chris Moore of Illinois and Myles Takats of Bucknell while also shutting out three additional opponents.
Tyler Ferrara went 5-2 to come within one win of placing at 61 kg, while Marcello Milani (57 kg) racked up a 6-2 mark, also just missing the podium. Ashton Davis notched three technical falls at 125 kg and Zahir McLean-Felix got his hand raised three times at 79 kg. Ethan Qureshi picked up two victories at 61 kg, including over highly ranked JJ McComas.
Also competing for Spartan were Benny Rogers and Carson Crace.
