Labeled the “Swiss Army Knife” of Waverly High School by local media in Nebraska (1011now.com), Evan Canoyer excelled on the mat, on the gridiron, and in the classroom.

He starred as a running back, linebacker, kicker and punter for the successful football team, earning All-State honors as a junior and senior.

During his career, he scored more than 30 touchdowns and averaged over six yards per carry. His coach, Reed Manstedt, said Canoyer was “one of the best leaders” he’s been around.

In wrestling, Canoyer captured 170 pound state championships in his junior and senior campaigns, while also making the finals as a sophomore. He also placed at the Nebraska state tournament in his ninth grade year.

In addition, Canoyer saw success outside the Cornhusker State, earning All-American honors at the NHSCA Nationals and at Fargo in both Freestyle and Greco Roman.

A top 300 Class of 2021 recruit according to Matscouts, Canoyer was ranked #1 academically in his high school class and earned the NE Wrestle Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

After establishing a top 5 list of Stanford, Virginia, NC State, Iowa State and Cornell, Canoyer committed to the Big Red in July of 2020. He projects at 165 or 174 pounds.
