Ruiz, Ferrara Win Mat Town Titles

At the Mat Town Open at Lock Haven, a pair of Spartan wrestlers captured championships: Simon Ruiz at 174 pounds and Tyler Ferrara at 133.

Ruiz went 4-0 and was dominant throughout the day with a technical fall, pin, major, and an 8-3 decision in the finals.

Ferrara won three bouts, including an opening round technical fall. In the title match, he topped Cornell's Ethan Qureshi in sudden victory.


Roberto Padilla also made the finals. At 165 pounds, Padilla started with a technical fall before defeating Lehigh's Owen Quinn in the semis. He dropped an 8-4 decision in the first place bout.


Mike Dellagatta placed in his second straight college tournament, notching fourth at 197. He won a pair of bonus point matches - one by pin and one by technical fall.


Carson Crace pinned Binghamton's John Baker at 184 pounds.


Also competing for Spartan at Mat Town on Sunday were Matt Dougherty (125), Ernie Perry (125), George Oroudjov (141), Carter Tate (141), Buzzy Bomberger (157), Zahir McLean-Felix (174), and Tyson Carroll (285).
