The Spartan Combat RTC welcomes David McFadden as a resident athlete who will continue to compete at the international level. McFadden also has been named the Cornell Wrestling volunteer assistant coach.
McFadden joins the Big Red staff after spending the past three seasons as a coach at Drexel while also competing for the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center. An accomplished freestyle wrestler, McFadden won the prestigious U.S. Open at 79 kg, qualified for the Olympic Trials, and won the U23 national championship.
"I am extremely grateful to Coach Mike Grey and his staff for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the Cornell wrestling family," McFadden said. "I am honored that I have the privilege to work alongside this amazing group of leaders, and I cannot wait to help these athletes achieve their goals on and off the wrestling mat."
McFadden was a standout at Virginia Tech during his college career as a four-time All-American and two-time ACC champion for the Hokies.
"We are very excited to welcome David and his wife, Julia, to Ithaca. He has been successful at every level and I'm excited to see how he can help develop our upper middle weights," Grey said. "He has an infectious personality and I know he will have a positive influence on the overall student-athlete experience. Now that the staff is set, it's time to get to work!"
McFadden, a New Jersey native, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2020 with a degree in Human Development.Â
