Yianni Diakomihalis took bronze at the Kunayev in Kazakhstan over the weekend at 65 kg in his return to competition.
He earned four dominant technical falls over opponents from the host country, beginning with a 10-0 victory over Nursultan Sadyk. Yianni followed with two 12-0 matches in a row, over Sanzhar Mukhtar and Didar Nurakhmet, to advance to the semis.
In that bout against American Joey McKenna, Yianni dropped a 4-3 decision when McKenna was awarded two late in the match to knot the score at 3 and the challenge was not successful.
Yianni finished strong with another 10-0 win, this time over Shattyk Alaidar, to nab bronze.
